Grammy-winning Fugees rapper Prakazrel “Pras” Michel was sentenced to 14 years in prison for illegally funneling millions of dollars in foreign funds to the 2012 reelection campaign of former President Barack Obama, according to several reports .
Michel, 53, a Brooklyn native, was sentenced before U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly on Thursday following a trial in Washington, D.C., as reported by the Associated Press .
Known professionally as Pras, the Brooklyn native formed the famous 90’s hip-hop group The Fugees with Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill. They landed a Grammy for “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” and Michel was nominated again as a solo artist for “Ghetto Superstar.”
He has also worked as an actor, producer and filmmaker.
