CHICAGO (WLS) -- Here's a quick tip on fake weight-loss products.
Security experts at "Checkpoint" say scammers are tricking people by using deepfake videos, cloned social media profiles, and fake telehealth websites to sell counterfeit products.
Imposters may encourage victims to buy medications that are not FDA-approved and may contain harmful or untested substances.
Health professionals recommend getting weight-loss prescriptions only through a licensed healthcare provider and filling them at legitimate pharmacies.
Watch for red flags such as misspellings, broken or open seals, or packaging that does not display the "Novo Nordisk" label. That is the only FDA-approved manufacturer of Semaglutide-based weight-loss medications, like the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy.
