NEW ORLEANS — Dozens were evacuated, including 14 NICU babies at Touro Hospital Saturday afternoon after a kitchen fire inside the building triggered a two-alarm fire response.
Touro Hospital plans to resume normal operations at 8 p.m. the fire caused damage to dining services, a statement sent to WWL Louisiana said.
Around 2:20 p.m., sprinklers went off on several floors, and firefighters arrived to find the source of the smoke at the hospital located at 3500 block of Prytania Street.
NOFD said they received a call at 1:56 p.m. to Touro Hospital and when they arrived smoke was coming from the rear area of the building, which is a kitchen area on the first floor of the hospital.
"It was a lot of heavy smoke and it struck a second alarm as they were evacuating the building," said Gregor
