YPSILANTI -- For the first time in school history, Dexter’s football team is heading to the state championship game.
The Dreadnaughts cruised past Birmingham Groves 41-6 on Saturday to earn a spot in Division 2 state final next Friday at Ford Field. They will face defending champion Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
Dexter opened the game with a back-to-back touchdowns to take a quick 14-0 lead and led 34-6 by halftime.
Dexter quarterback Cooper Arnedt connected with star receiver Cole Novara for four touchdowns in the victory.
The Dreadnaughts (12-2) celebrated the win by dumping the Gatorade cooler on head coach Phil Jacobs and signing the fight song with the student section.
