CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man has been hospitalized after he was reportedly shot by Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies during an investigation into a vehicle theft early Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

TBI reports that preliminary investigation shows that at about 1 a.m., Hamilton County deputies were investigating a report of a vehicle theft near the 4300 block of Highway 58.

Deputies located that vehicle at a nearby gas station and tried to speak with the driver.

During this interaction, TBI said the situation escalated for unknown reasons, resulting in two deputies shooting at the vehicle. The driver was struck by gunfire in the shooting and had to be hospitalized.

No deputies were injured in the incident, TBI said.
