LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Teachers’ Association is responding to the Jefferson County Public Schools superintendent’s proposal to c lose and merge certain schools within the district.
This comes as JCPS faces a $188 million deficit.
Brian Yearwood recommends closing Zachary Taylor Elementary, moving Waller-Williams Environmental, consolidating King Elementary into Maupin Elementary and relocating the Georgia Chaffee Teenage Parent Program (TAPP) alternative school.
JCPS is also proposing the closure of Liberty High School which was initially created to serve students who are behind academically and working to recover credits. The district said it’s no longer needed as a stand alone school.
