MONTREAL—There was a Santa Claus parade just a couple of blocks from the Bell Centre on Saturday, and that seemed to put the Maple Leafs in a gift-giving mood.
They gave the puck away in new and creative ways in a 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens that left coach Craig Berube shaking his head.
“We’re a veteran team. It’s inexcusable,” said Berube, who seems just as perplexed as everyone else about why the Leafs have won just one of their last eight games (1-5-2).
“Getting some people back in the lineup, that definitely is going to help,” said Berube. “But until we decide to dig in and play the right way for 60 minutes on a consistent basis, it’s going to be hard to pull yourself out of anything.”
The Canadiens scored twice in the first period, two more in a dominant second
