Sir Keir Starmer is on course to lose any future leadership contest in which he is in a straight fight with Andy Burnham or Angela Rayner , and he could be defeated by Ed Miliband or Wes Streeting, according to a poll of Labour members. Nearly six out of 10 members (58%) said they would vote for Greater Manchester Mayor Mr Burnham in a head-to-head contest with Sir Keir, with fewer than one in three (32%) saying they would back the Prime Minister.
Mr Burnham’s leadership ambitions were the subject of intense discussion during the recent Labour conference. The Mayor would have to win a Westminster seat and he would likely face a strong challenge from Reform UK in any by-election, but the Survation poll for LabourList shows he retains strong popularity in the party.
