New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) designate Justice Surya Kant said on Saturday that his foremost objective after assuming office will be to tackle the heavy backlog of cases pending across courts in the country.
Justice Kant shared his vision while interacting with legal journalists at his official residence in Delhi before formally taking charge as the country’s top judge on Monday, November 24.
Emphasising the importance of alternative dispute resolution, Justice Kant described mediation as “a game changer” that can offer litigants quicker, out-of-court settlements.
He noted that the challenge of arrears has to be addressed both at the level of individual courts and across the national judicial system. According to him, he has already begun examining the matter. A major hurdle,
