Steinbach’s rapid growth continues to place pressure on the city’s water supply system.
"Growth has a direct impact on water consumption and demand," says Mike Heppner, manager of waterworks.
He notes the city has taken steps in recent years to expand capacity and maintain supply.
New treatment plant bolstering capacity
A second water treatment plant was completed in 2019 and works together with the original facility near the water tower. Heppner says the newer system runs pumps continuously.
"We have pumps running at that pump station 24 hours a day. So it's always putting fresh water into the distribution system there."
The city has also added new wells to support the plant and continues planning for additional sources.
