Federal officials have identified the two National Guardsmen shot in what they said was a planned attack on Wednesday, Nov. 26, blocks from the White House.

Andrew Wolfe, 24, and Sarah Beckstrom, 20, were both in critical condition and had undergone surgery following the shooting, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said at a press conference. Both victims are reportedly from West Virginia.

The suspect was identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan man who came to the United States in 2021, federal officials said. He reportedly drove from his house north of Seattle to Washington D.C. with plans for the attack, Pirro said.

As previously reported by Daily Voice, Lakanwal opened fire around 2:15 p.m., near Farragut Square at the intersection of 17th and I Streets NW.

Andrew Wolfe was among two National Guardsmen shot in a suspected terror shooting, authorities confirmed.

Pirro said Rahmanullah Lakanwal opened fire with a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver. Lakanwal struck one of the guardsmen, then leaned over and shot him again after he collapsed, Pirro said. The second victim was then hit several times, Pirro said.

Fellow guardsmen nearby responded right away, “engaging the suspect, neutralizing the threat and subduing him at the scene,” Pirro said.
