Outgoing Italian Consul Paola Allegra Baistrocchi is being lauded for her efforts in the Midwest region, with local leaders saying her impact on the region will be felt for years.

Mrs. Baistrocchi has served in the region for four years. Stationed in Detroit, her service area includes all of Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio.

“I’ve really tried very hard not to concentrate only on Michigan,” Mrs. Baistrocchi said. “Which is sort of the easy thing to do if you’re sitting there… but I’ve spent a very significant amount of time dedicated to Ohio, not just for proximity, but because there is a very strong Italian presence in terms of companies and increasing interest in that sense.”
