Spain looks set to revolutionise its high-speed rail network between two of its most popular cities with trains capable of travelling well over 200mph. Until now, residents and visitors in Spain have been able to travel between the capital, Madrid and Barcelona in around three hours.

However, after this major renovation, with trains able to reach maximum speeds of 218mph (350kph), these journey times look set to be slashed to under two hours, according to Spanish Transport Minister, Oscar Puente, at an event in Madrid this week. So far, such a velocity has only been achieved in China , such as in its new cross-sea line in Fujian .
