The weather system over the Strait of Malacca and the adjoining South Andaman Sea is expected to move west-northwest and intensify into a depression by November 24. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is likely to strengthen further into a cyclonic storm, which will be called ‘Senyar’ once it intensifies to the level, over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the next couple of days.
The IMD has issued heavy rainfall alerts for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with warnings of squally winds reaching 50-60 kmph and gusting to 70 kmph from the evening of November 25. Wind speeds may increase over the southeast Bay from the next morning as the system intensifies further.
