When the Consett steel works closed 45 years ago, it dealt a hammering blow to the town with thousands of people out of work. There is no sign of the industry that was once that once took place on the site, with the area undergoing huge transformation over the last decade.

Hundreds of homes, retail units, allotments and improved cycle routes have brought new life to the site. The housing development has been led by Amethyst Homes who have delivered more than 400 mixed tenure properties at its Regents Park development.
