DALLAS — In a thrilling game, the Southlake Carroll Dragons won their first-ever 6A Division II title in the program's history.
Despite being home to one of the state's most elite volleyball programs, Southlake Carroll (35-5) has never won a state title. But in its first finals appearance in 27 years Saturday, the Dragons defeated the Austin High School Marrons 3-2 in five sets.
To earn a spot in the state finals, the Dragons have to defeat the undefeated defending state champions in Byron Nelson. Southlake Carroll handed Byron Nelson their first straight sets defeat in two years, winning 3-0. The game aired live on WFAA+ .
The championship game, played on Saturday night at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, was against Austin High School (41-7).
