U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem admitted over the weekend to handing out "fake" checks, according to a new report.
In an article called "ICE Barbie Makes Big Show of Handing Out Fake Bonus Checks," the Daily Beast reports on what happened when "Noem was in Las Vegas to hand out bonuses to TSA employees and announce a $1 billion investment in security checkpoint enhancements."
The report states, "Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem spent Saturday in Las Vegas, where she held a press conference featuring several TSA agents employed at Harry Reid International Airport, and made a show of handing out bonus checks that she admitted were not actually checks."
"After announcing the $10,000 bonuses—which, like the bonuses given to air traffic controllers who worked without pay during the government shutdown, were only offered to certain employees—Noem said, 'Let’s hand out some checks, should we?'" according to the news outlet.
The Beast then quotes her as saying, "This is a document that verifies it will be direct deposited into your accounts, OK?”
"Noem also announced that the Department of Homeland Security will spend more than $1 billion to improve airport security checkpoints nationwide, and that security personnel will receive additional training," according to the report.
