A special POCSO court in Mehsana district has convicted a 24-year-old man for abducting and raping a minor girl multiple times in 2024. The court has sentenced the accused to 20 years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay the survivor a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh from the Victim Compensation Fund of the the state government.

Pronouncing the quantum of sentence, the court expressed concern and observed, “…we live in a society where the safety and security of children remains an unfulfilled promise…We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.”
