The City of Grand Junction is moving forward with the design of potential improvements to 29 Road and the proposed 29 Road Interchange, utilizing $2 million in already allocated federal funding.
The City Council discussed moving forward with the design work at its Monday work session. City Manager Mike Bennett said the design phase does not mean the city is obligated to build an interchange. Voters rejected a ballot measure in 2024 that would have authorized a bond to fund the interchange construction.
“I do want to be very clear that this does not obligate nor require us to build the interchange,” Bennett said. “For one, we don’t have the funding to build the interchange and we are not able to cover that as a city. We would not be able to take on that amount of debt unless it was fully
