HOUSTON — An officer with the Houston Police Department is recovering in a hospital after he was injured in what police describe as a road-rage shooting while driving to work Saturday night.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Gessner Road and Hempstead.

Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz said the officer, identified as Jake Parker, had gotten into some type of road-rage incident in his personal vehicle as he exited Hempstead Highway. That's when he said a man in another vehicle made a "bad decision."

Diaz said the young man had gotten out of his car and opened fire, hitting Parker in the shoulder. Parker was in uniform at the time, but was not wearing his vest.
