The Giants need plenty from their next head coach.

They need a CEO-type leader and a steady presence, yes. But they also need someone who can ignite their offense and develop quarterback Jaxson Dart in his second season — and beyond.

Can Mike Kafka be that guy?

At times Sunday, he made a strong case. His bold decisions — well, two of them — put the Giants on the brink of a massive upset in Detroit.

But ultimately, despite an impressive offensive showing (517 yards) with quarterback Jameis Winston starting for Dart, the Giants lost again.

Their 34-27 overtime defeat at the Lions dropped them to 2-10, with six straight losses, including 0-2 with Kafka as interim head coach.

Winston completed 18 of 36 passes for 366 yards, two touchdowns and an interception
