TOLEDO, Ohio — A merger between two Toledo-based nonprofits is expected to stabilize one of the city’s largest family shelters and expand services for parents and children experiencing homelessness.
Family House , a long-standing shelter that has served Toledo families for decades, had been operating at a deficit in recent years as financial challenges pushed the organization to the brink of closure.
Without intervention its doors were at risk of closing, a move that would have removed dozens of family shelter beds from the community. Recognizing the growing need for safe and stable housing options, especially as winter approaches, Leading Families Home stepped in to acquire and merge with the organization.
