Millions of households have been warned they could face paying more in income tax over the next few years.

It comes as Chancellor Rachel Reeves is set to confirm the extension of frozen tax bands.

This will see more people dragged into higher tax bands as they get pay rises and promotions.

Someone starts paying the higher rate of income tax once they start earning over £50,270.

This could leave, for example, those currently earning around £40,000, or even lower, under threat of entering the higher tax band in the coming years should they change jobs or get a promotion.
