School principals voted 447-121 in favor of the Ohio High School Athletic Association's referendum to allow NIL , the OHSAA announced Nov. 24. Another 247 schools abstained from voting.
The vote occurred in response to a lawsuit filed Oct. 15 by Ohio State commit and Huber Heights Wayne wide receiver Jamier Brown against the OHSAA. Watch Ohio High School Football Live on the NFHS Network all season
The OHSAA wanted its member schools to be able to set NIL rules with a vote instead of letting a ruling on the lawsuit dictate terms. The newly adopted regulations took effect immediately.
With the referendum passing, only five states remain without high school NIL.
