A driver struck and killed a pedestrian crossing the street in Hicksville on Saturday night, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The pedestrian, Orlando Yanes, 45, of Hicksville, sustained severe trauma and was declared dead at the crash scene, a police news release said.

The crash happened about 7:34 p.m., according to police. The driver, identified in the release only as a 32-year-old woman, was southbound on Jerusalem Avenue in a 2021 Toyota RAV4 and struck Yanes as he tried to cross the avenue near Gem Court. The driver remained at the scene.

The police homicide squad was investigating, the release said. No further details were released.
