Operations at the City of Weyburn ice arenas have returned to normal following a fire involving the facility's main Zamboni on Sunday afternoon.

According to a release issued by the City on Monday, the fire occurred during a game on Sunday. Quick action by rink staff and the Weyburn Fire Department brought the incident under control and prevented further damage to the facility.

Two U15 teams and spectators in attendance were evacuated from the building. The City credited patrons for calmly following instructions, which gave staff the time needed to address the issue safely.

"Our first priority is always the safety of everyone in our facilities, and our staff did exactly what they are trained to do," said Richard Henning, director of leisure services and parks.
