HOUSTON — The back and forth in the state’s redistricting fight continues as a Supreme Court decision has temporarily restored Texas’ new congressional maps .

Justice Samuel Alito granted an administrative stay in the state’s favor on Friday.

The administrative stay temporarily blocked a lower court ruling that paused the maps from going into effect, as they said the redistricting likely discriminated based on race.

We are now waiting for SCOTUS to consider whether the redrawn maps can be used in the upcoming 2026 midterms.

This summer, during a special legislative session, the Texas Legislature redrew the maps. Republicans were hoping to gain five additional Congressional seats.
