Around six years ago, Mary Jolly was at an apartment she shared with her sister, Brittney, in Mallard Creek when the two heard a gunshot, according to Jolly's parents, Christopher and Janet Jolly. Jolly's immediate reaction was to go outside. That was the kind of person she was, her family said.

"The loudest thing in the room, even though she wasn’t a talker, I would say was her heart," said her sister, Brittney Jolly. “She was a person to show up on someone’s worst day, worst nightmare, and make it better.”

Mary Jolly was killed doing just that.
