CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has chosen to use this mugshot because a guilty verdict has been reached.

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of first-degree murder in the February 2020 shooting death of a 19-year-old man , the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office announced.

Trevor Powell was found guilty Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, of first-degree murder, three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the death of Jacquez Moore. The trial began Nov. 17 before Superior Court Judge Reggie E. McKnight in courtroom 5170.

Powell was taken into custody after sentencing. He had been out on bond for the past five years.
