PORTLAND, Ore. — A man accused of crashing into several cars and causing traffic mayhem on Interstate 5 during rush hour in North Portland on Monday night has been arrested.
Around 5 p.m., TriMet transit police located a stolen van near the Delta Park/Vanport MAX Station with a driver inside. When officers attempted to stop the van, the driver — later identified as Ryan Anthony Salt — sped off, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
Officers did not pursue the van through heavy traffic but monitored it from a distance. During that time, Salt allegedly drove recklessly and endangered multiple people by using the shoulder and briefly entering oncoming traffic, the sheriff's office said.
