Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is thanking the community with “a heartfelt danke schön” after the annual Onkel Hans Food Drive saw an increase in donations.

Supporting The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, the food drive sees cash and non-perishable food items collected during the Thanksgiving Day Parade or at Stuff A Bus events in the community.

Donations this year included 10,191 pounds of food and $12,765.66 in donations, representing 34,024 meals.

In a news release, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest said the food drive has yielded a total of more than 1.4 million meals since it began.
