MONROE, Wis. — A local sheriff provided an update on a recent plane crash that killed two in Wisconsin .

Preliminary information revealed a fixed wing airplane was set to land at Monroe Municipal Airport on Monday. Before landing, the plane crashed in the gravel quarry north of State Highway 59, right next to the airport.

First responders were alerted to the crash in the Town of Sylvester just before 5:15 p.m.

The two people killed in the crash were confirmed to have been inside the plane.

The victims were identified as a 43-year-old man from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and a 41-year-old man from Omro, Wisconsin.

Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable said that on Tuesday, investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were in Monroe conduct
