As the credits rolled after its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, the standing ovation for the freshly released “Nuremberg,” was said to last four minutes or more, or, put another way, significantly better than it did Sunday night at the Cranberry Cinemas hours after a Steelers loss.
It was there that the dozen or so of us sat in a vaguely respectful silence for a few minutes, no clapping, no ovation, the only standing being as a preposition for beating it to the restrooms after 2½ hours. From what I gather from the relevant film sources, the Pittsburgh reaction will be more predictive of the movie’s ultimate place in the history of films about history.
