COLUMBIA, S.C. — A man charged in connection with a shooting in a parking lot off Forest Drive weeks ago has had his first appearance before a judge.
Mark Baumgartner, 56, was charged Tuesday with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Hours after the charges were filed, he appeared in a bond hearing at the Richland County Detention Center where a judge gave him a $50,000 surety bond.
Columbia Police said just before 11 a.m. on November 14, police were called to 2700 Middleburg Drive, an office complex with multiple businesses. Officers said they found a man in the parking lot with a gunshot injury. He was taken to the hospital and later released.
