PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WTKR) – A Virginia landlord surprised his tenants with free rent for the holidays.
Missy Waller moved into her Portsmouth home three months ago. She said she still has some decorating to do, and with it being so close to the holidays, that can be costly.
With a $1,400 rent payment and a son in college, Waller said it all adds up.
“I pay rent, lights, gas, water, trash, et cetera,” Waller said.
On Nov. 13, her landlord, Travis Johnson, wanted to help her out.
Johnson told his tenants their rent is paid for November and December.
“It was a big relief. It was like a bookbag of bricks off my back,” Waller said.
Johnson rents out 12 homes in Portsmouth and has been a landlord for eight years. He said he knows what it’s like to have to stretch a dollar.
