PHOENIX — The Phoenix Union High School District issued an apology Tuesday to the daughter of a state lawmaker for naming her as the person who was allegedly involved in a box cutter incident on a local campus.
In late August, the district announced that state Rep. Lydia Hernandez and her daughter, Cassandra Hernandez, allegedly came to the Maryvale High School campus to test out the school's weapon detectors. The mother and daughter are both members of the Cartwright Elementary School District Governing Board.
The incident occurred during a charged time for the high school since it happened about a week after a student was stabbed to death on campus. Cassandra Hernandez quickly denied any involvement, revealing that she was working when the incident reportedly occurred.
