ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - It’s been difficult for young people to purchase houses over the last several years due to continued high home prices.

The National Association of Realtors says the median age of a first-time home buyer is now 40 years old.

In Roanoke, prices are up slightly from last year, but one local realtor said the market is in good shape and is more buyer friendly than in other parts of the state and country.

“Inventory is up quite a bit, 40 to 50%, somewhere in that range, which is great for the buyers in our area. So we’re looking really good in the Roanoke Valley, we just need the buyers to understand that, because they’re hearing national news. People have to remember national news is a lot different than what’s happening in each locality around the country,” said Mac We
