Leaders of "No Tax Oregon," the group leading the effort to refer cost increases in Gov. Tina Kotek's transportation package to voters, say they have collected nearly double the required signatures, less than two weeks after being approved to circulate petitions .
Senate Minority Leader Bruce Starr, R-Dundee, said "over 150,000" signatures have been gathered, which would exceed the 78,116 required by Dec. 30.
Starr said the group has not yet decided if it will submit signatures for verification to the Oregon Secretary of State's Office right away, but said collection will continue.
"The volunteers are fired up. They see this as an opportunity to push back against the Democrat supermajority and the Governor's overreach," Starr said. "It's hard to stop the momentum."
