A Springfield man pleaded guilty to a federal hate crime on Nov. 25 for assaulting a man on the basis of their sexual orientation .

On July 5, 2021, 26-year-old Daniel Andrew McGee went to the victim's apartment for a date after they matched on the dating app, Grindr, which is designed for and primarily used by gay men.
