IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has awarded Hawkeyes’ sophomore Ava Heiden with National Player of the Week.

It comes the same week Heiden was named Big Ten Player of the Week.

Heiden, a native of Sherwood, Oregon, recorded her third double-double of the season with a team-leading 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. Her performance led Iowa to its first ranked win of the season against Baylor last Thursday.

Heiden’s 20 points and six rebounds against the Hurricanes led the Hawkeyes to the WBCA Showcase Championship.

Heiden is the teams top performer, leading in scoring (15.8 points per game), rebounding (8.8 rebounds per game), and field goal percentage (63%), ranking 21st nationally.

Iowa plays against Western Illinois Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CT
