TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Pima County is launching a significant two-year initiative to enhance community safety, focusing on cleaning up The Loop and expanding services for treatment and housing.

At the Santa Cruz River near downtown Tucson, trash and debris are visible along the banks.

"So you can see everything over here. This should just totally be cleaned up," Pima County Supervisor Andres Cano said.

Cano explained that the cleanup is part of the newly approved "One Pima Initiative," which the board endorsed last week.

The two-year plan aims to restore, clean and maintain The Loop, as well as the washes and parks connected to it, by April of next year.

"It's going to cost $750,000," Cano said.

The initiative also focuses on making The Loop easier and safer to use, with improvements
