Madison residents may soon receive text alerts when trains block major downtown roads. The city is testing a new AI-powered train alert system over the next few weeks.
Mayor Ranae Bartlett said the system will help residents plan their routes and avoid traffic delays.
"With trains coming through unexpectedly, it's a little difficult to plan and then for people who want to come downtown we want to make sure they can get there in a way that doesn't slow them down or impede traffic," Bartlett said.
The alert system is part of a broader initiative by the city's IT department, which is already working on a camera system to assist public safety and 911 dispatch.
