New Orleans is getting its first look at Mayor-elect Helena Moreno’s amended budget proposal for next year, a plan she calls a surgical approach to closing a $222 million shortfall.

Moreno’s proposal lays out where she plans to cut, pause or shift spending in order to stabilize the city’s finances. The plan includes $27 million in personnel savings through cuts or layoffs affecting nearly 100 positions. It also implements a hiring freeze, rolling furlough days for more than 700 employees, and reductions in some job categories.

She also identified about $2.5 million in reduced operating costs, including limits on travel.
