CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - The Coralville city council voted Tuesday to amend its policy on automated license plate readers, but the main point of contention among council members wasn’t addressed in the new policy.

The city voted in September to approve the original policy and to move forward with the license plate readers, also known as Flock cameras.

On Tuesday night, the council clarified when officers can take action based on alerts from the Flock cameras and expanded data sharing with other agencies that already use the technology in Johnson County — North Liberty and the University of Iowa Police Department.

The data is currently stored for 30 days before it’s deleted. But city council members are split over that time frame moving forward.
