ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis County Council Chair Rita Heard Days dropped a $3 million animal shelter funding bill from Tuesday’s meeting agenda, saying the legislation was no longer needed after the county’s animal shelter passed its inspection.

“I move to drop Bill 134 from the agenda,” Days said during the meeting. “This was a bill put together to help us pass our inspection at the ACC, now that that has happened, I think we can drop it.”

The surprise announcement came as homeless advocate Larry Rice called attention to what he described as a disparity in county funding priorities.

Rice, who leads the New Life Evangelistic Center and has long advocated for the homeless, said the dropped bill highlights the county’s lack of direct services for unhoused residents.
