PHOENIX — A prominent name in public health is condemning a change in guidance at the CDC.
Last week, the agency scrapped its longstanding position that vaccines do not cause autism. The new policy leaves open the door for speculation. Experts say it is contrary to decades of scientific evidence that concludes vaccines are safe.
“The confusion that is being thrust on the American public because of misinformation and disinformation, to me, is criminal,” said Dr. Richard Carmona, former U.S. Surgeon General and Distinguished Professor of Public Health at the University of Arizona.
Carmona: Long-term impact “catastrophic”
Carmona was the nation's top doctor in the George W. Bush administration and remains a special advisor to the Arizona Department of Health.
