SUFFOLK, Va. — High school football reaches its regional championship weekend, and nine local teams remain in the hunt for state titles. One of the marquee matchups comes in Class 5 Region B, where King’s Fork hosts two-time defending region champion—and reigning state champion—Maury.
Both teams enter Friday night at 11-1 after convincing semifinal wins. King’s Fork punched its ticket with a victory over Bethel, while Maury continued its postseason surge. The meeting marks a rematch of last year’s region final, a game Maury won on its home field to end the Bulldogs’ season.
This time, King’s Fork gets the showdown in Suffolk—and head coach Anthony Joffrion saw it coming months ago.
