A public inquiry into a surgeon who left patients with life-changing injuries will hear its opening statements on Wednesday.
Dr Sam Eljamel was a consultant neurosurgeon at NHS Tayside ’s Ninewells Hospital in Dundee between 1995 and 2014 and harmed dozens of patients through mistakes over several years.
The surgeon was eventually suspended and later resigned, and is now believed to be living and working in Libya.
A public inquiry is taking place into how Mr Eljamel was appointed; his professional practice with NHS Tayside; the operation and adequacy of clinical governance and risk management processes in place within NHS Tayside; and the process by which he came to be first supervised then suspended.
