A cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after colliding with a car in North Yorkshire.

The crash happened at around 3.10pm yesterday on Darlington Road at Skeeby, near Richmond.

A silver Renault Modus collided with a cyclist, with both the car and the bike travelling from Skeeby towards Richmond.

The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was airlifted to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. The driver of the car was uninjured and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Two air ambulances, police vehicles and a road ambulance were sent to the scene, and the road was closed for several hours.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "We’re appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a collision which occurred at Skeeby near Richmond.
