OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On Wednesday morning, a major detour is scheduled to end for drivers in Omaha’s Midtown area.
First Alert 6 is told the Harney Street bridge over Interstate 480 will reopen after the morning rush hour. Early February, crews demolished the bridge and started construction to support the new streetcar coming to Omaha.
According to a release, the new bridge has features such as acorn lights, wider sidewalks, and new pedestrian safety measures.
The City plans to take down the nearby Farnam Street Bridge at the start of next year — also as part of the streetcar project . The exact date of the closure has yet to be announced.
The Farnam Street side is set to feature four modes of transportation: the streetcar, a vehicle lane, sidewalks, and a bike lane.
